1. Precize klarigi (ideon aŭ vorton) per la ecoj aŭ nuancoj, kiuj apartigas ĝin disde la aliaj:
Ĉu vi povus difini la sencon de tiu vorto?
Fluidaĵo sen difino, nek vinagro nek vino.
Tiu odoro estas tute nedifinebla.
2. Precize klarigi la naturon, sencon aŭ rolon de io aŭ iu:
La estro jam difinis taskojn al mi.
Fianĉon de l' sorto difinitan forpelos nenia malhelpo.
En Esperanto "la" estas difina artikolo.
Ni renkontiĝos en la difinita tempo.
